Reviews of Sony DVP FX 810 By Joe D "RealGuns.Com" (Raymond, ME)

I purchased the Sony DVPFX810 primarily for longer duration air travel. The unit is inexpensive, but it works as well as any expensive multimedia notebook computer, only the Sony offers a lot more battery life. I am averaging 4 hours of play time with headsets, as is the Sony unit. The image is bright, color is good and controls, remote or on-unit, are easy to use. The ability to swivel the screen around works really well when the lump sitting in the seat in front of me needs to recline in my lap. Swiveling the screen on the base moves it out away from the seat back. (more…)

If it’s all about the picture

Filed under: Sony DVP FX 820

When shopping at Best Buy for a portable DVD player, I tried a Toshiba, the Panasonic LS86 and asked about a Sony. My salesperson, who was knowledgeable, steered me away from the Sony, saying he didn’t like it because it has a "glossy screen." So I tried the current Toshiba 9" and the Panasonic LS86, touted for its 13 hour battery life. I selected the LS86 because it has better blacks, meaning the Toshiba had a more washed out picture. I took the LS86 home and while learning how to use it I was pleased at the degree of control you have. (Yes, this will soon be a review of the Sony DVP FX 820 - I returned the LS86 and got an FX820 - but first a little more about the Panasonic.) (more…)

Great compromise player

By Crash and Burn "Resident Curmudgeon" (USA)  reviews of Sony DVP FX 820

I just received and tried out this player. I got it because my wife thought a Panasonic 10.3" player was too big; and to tell the truth, its size overwhelmed me, too.

The battery came nearly fully charged, and I was able to play a DVD without reading the manual. One of the reasons I like this player is it has the capability of accepting composite video and audio from another source, as well as sending it to another source. The A/V Inputs and Outputs are the same ports, they are switch selected. I had to read the manual, and go all the way to the back of it to realize the Digital Audio Out connection is also for Audio I/O. The two headphones jacks are seperate from the Audio Digital Out port. (more…)
